To Dream

November 4, 2009 Rod Carroll 3 comments

To dream is to experience what reality can never provide and what no one can ever take away.
When I dream joy is deeper, life is fuller, and love is lasting.
Reality robs. To dream is to abound.
Time traps. To dream is to be free.
Death destroys. To dream is to never think upon such things.
To dream is to know a life this one cannot give.

Dr. Johnny Hunt On The Great Commission Resurgence

Dr. Daniel Akin On A Great Commission Resurgence

April 20, 2009 Rod Carroll 1 comment

On April 16, 2009 Dr. Daniel Akin (President of Southeastern Theological Seminary) stood before Southeastern Seminary and brought a powerful message to all Southern Baptist on the need for a Great Commission Resurgence and even pointed the way to go about it. Reflecting on Acts 1:4-8, Dr. Akin presented twelve axioms answering the question, “What must happen to make us ready for a God-sent Great Commission Resurgence? Ed Stetzer in referencing this message  said “Akin nails some theses to an SBC door”  They are as followed:

  1. We must commit ourselves to the total and absolute Lordship of Jesus Christ in every area of our lives.
  2. We must be gospel centered in all our endeavors for the glory of God.
  3. We must take our stand on the firm foundation of the inerrant and infallible Word of God.
  4. We must devote ourselves to a radical pursuit of the Great Commission in the context of obeying the Great Commandments.
  5. We must affirm the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 as a guide for building a consensus for partnership in the gospel.
  6. We must dedicate ourselves to a passionate pursuit of the Great Commission across our nation and to all nations.
  7. We must covenant to build gospel saturated homes that see children as a gift from God and our first mission field.
  8. We must recognize the need to rethink our Convention structure and identity to maximize our energy.
  9. We must see the necessity for pastor to be bible preachers, teaching both content and theology.
  10. We must encourage pastors as the head of a gospel missions agency, calling out and equipping their people.
  11. We must pledge ourselves to a renewed cooperation that is gospel centered  and built around a biblical core.
  12. We must accept our constant need to humble ourselves and repent of pride and arrogance, jealousy and hatred, contentions, lying, selfish ambition, laziness, complacency, idolatry, and other sins of the flesh, pleading with our Lord to do what only he can do in us and through us and all for his glory.

I encourage you to go watch the message here or listen to it here.

Female Facebook Friends Forbidden

February 23, 2009 Rod Carroll 4 comments

If you are female and we were friends on Facebook…well…we are no more. Please don’t take this personally. I believe Facebook is one of the best things to come along in a long time, but I also believe that just like anything else it is also something the devil can use to temp us and to further corrupt us. So to help keep my heart from being lead astray, I have removed all females from my friend list. There are of course a couple of exceptions, and those are my wonderful cousins Kelly and Julie Horsley. You may think this is extreme and you may even think that this shows just what a weak person I am. Either way, I don’t care. I know how easily a heart can be deceived and lead astray, and so there is no price to high to pay to protect it.

Yes I Am Still Alive

I didn’t mean to startle so many people by not blogging. I am trying to use up the rest of my vacation days before I lose them, and I have also been working additional hours (I know this sounds conflicting). I am not blogging because I don’t want to or because I don’t have anything to say. The opposite is true. I am dieing to blog about the “Hijacking of Christmas”. The truth is that as long as Willie Nelson is going to sing about bringing marijuana to “baby Jesus” then let them call it “Happy Holidays”. I had just as soon not have them attach Christ’s name to all the stupid stuff that people are doing and saying. Okay…I don’t have the time to go on. Hopefully I will have more time after Christmas to get back in the swing of things. Until then, thanks for reading my blog.
Merry Christmas to you all.

New Song – “Jesus Messiah”

June 20, 2008 Rod Carroll 5 comments

A friend sent me a new song yesterday by Chris Tomlin, “Jesus Messiah” So this morning I am driving around before work listening to it, weeping and trying to sing at the same time. You know…”one of those moments“.

This is the best worship song I have heard in a really long time. It has it all. Musically it soars and lyrically it is more grounded in truth than a lot of the “praise songs” out there.

It looks as though Tomlin has a new CD coming out in September entitled “Hello Love“. I can’t wait.

Let me stop here for just a moment to make something clear, because if I am not careful It will come across as though I am singing the praises of Tomlin (to which I am to some degree I know), but this post comes out of a heart that has swelled with a love for Jesus this morning and an awe of what he has done for this poor vile creature.  His love is amazing. He is my rescuer and my redeemer, the one who ransomed me. He is JESUS MESSIAH!

William Tyndale On The Prosperity Gospel

I have just started reading The Obedience of a Christian Man by William Tyndale and came across this quote in the first chapter: “Prosperity is a right curse and a thing that God giveth unto his enemies.” I am curious as to what Olsteen would say about this. I think I may know.
